Museu da Cidade

To create the new identity for Museu da Cidade (Museums of the city of Porto), a customized version of Juliette Collin’s typeface Salmanazar was designed for the graphic design studio R2 Design. This bespoke version of Salmanazar possesses letters inspired by the street signs of the city of Porto.

Salmanazar is a sans serif typeface with roots in nineteenth century typography. Originally intended to be used for titles, its vigorous yet uncertain lines have been updated for contemporary use, while simultaneously conserving some details specific to typefaces from the Belle Epoch.
